Week 34French invasionNow already 1 month and 1 week in Greece and it start to feel more like home know. With Pascale I decorated the apartment a little bit more. We also start now more to work at the Youth Center and came up with some things we like to do. We also try to learn more about the city we had a map from the tourist office and yesterday we searched for the cultural centre, cinema and other things only the most of the things don't exist anymore of are closed.
When Pascale just arrived we went to Prespa for one week. Last weekend Pascale her family came to visit her after their holiday in Greece. She has one twin sister and one younger sister and brother and they al staid in the apartment so it was like a French invasion. But I liked it because they are a really nice and warm family and they cook very good so I had some nice meals. Saturday we went to Kastoria, then we swim in the river in Nestorio and in the night we slept in the open air somewhere in the mountains. In the middle of the night the border police wake us up to check if we're not Albanians and warned us that is was dangerous to sleep because a lot of Albanians come through this road. So I had a good night!
For me it's sometimes still strange to be here because it looks like with your EVS your start a whole new life. But I love to have all the new experiences and to be more aware of things where I in Holland never thought about.
Week 32Riverdance Festival, KastoriaLast friday I visited together with Renee and Maria a Greek rock festival in Kastoria. Because we didn't had a car to go their we had to go hitchhiking for about 80 km. The first car that stopped was a little van with a crazy man in it. He really liked to take us because he only had to go to another village about 30 km further but he brings us al the way to the festival and during the drive we stopped somewhere to drink frappe and eat some fruits. So about 2,5 hours later we arrived at the festival. It was a big festival next to a small river they were tents and cars everywhere and everybody has bring their own music so you here different kinds of music everywhere. We didn't know were to but our tent because the most people where with a group and had their own place. Then came a nice boy that said we can put our tent at their place because they had some place left. Later also 4 Italian friends from Maria arrived who whe're very nice. In the evening the music begin with big fireworks and because the festival is in a dall (I don't know if I write it ok) it was really loud. I don't liked the music but it was a good festival because the atmosphere was really good. I didn't sleep much because we had to sleep on the floor and the whole night you hear music everywhere. The next day I swimmed with Renee in the river (it was really cold) and than we get our stuff and go waiting for the bus to got to Kastoria. From Kastoria we also had to go hitchhiking back but we we're again really lucky because the first car brings us to te Albanian border their the border police helped us to stop a car to go to Prespa.
Week 31LarissaThis weekend I visited other EVS volunteers in Larissa. I arrived saturday night after a 4 hour ride through the mountains. The volunteers are living with six together in one appartment. They are really nice and it was a warm welcome. Saturday night we'd drink some bears at the appartment and watched a really bad movie "Eurotrip". Sunday a Dutch volunteer gave a party because he finished his EVS. It started already at 3 o'clock because he and two British girls are leaving at 11 to go for two weeks to travel at the Greek Islands. So again we drink bears, sing for 3 hours karaoke, play'd the game "Jungespeed" and at the end had a shaving foame fight. On monday we went to a open movie theatre where the volunteers can watch movies for free. It was a Greek movie so I could't unterstand much of it but it was nice to watch it and be in the theatre. So again I had a great weekend with the EVS volunteers. I thinks it is great about EVS that you can travel around to meet other volunteers , share experiences, meet interesting people and see other places. | LinksMyEVS albumCategoriesWho's nearby? | |||
