Week 30

Prespa

Last weekend I went to Agios Germanos a small, beautiful village near the Prespa Lakes to visit some other volunteers who are working at the project "Cultural Triangle of Prespa". One of them was a dutch girl who comes funny enough from the same town were i'm from in Holland. We went hitchhiking to the Prespa Lakes (you can see on the pictures). I think it's the most beautiful place i've ever been. It was only a pity that their were a lot of musquito's and i'm now all over the musquito bites. We also visites the local Greek bar which was quite different from the bars in Holland. I had a great weekend in Prespa by swimming in the lake, go to the local bar and  talk with the other volunteers about their EVS experiences and ofcours Greek man.

On Monday I went back to Florina and in the evening Renee and Maria from Prespa visited me and we went to eat gyros and had a drink in a bar. This week I go every morning to the Youth Center to talk with Ellisavet, drink Greek coffee and go on the internet. In the afternoon I try to learn some Greek, go for a walk and read something in my book. I also went to the market en to see a church with Ellisavet. The church in Greece looks very different than in Holland.

Tonight Renee and Maria are visiting me and we go out in Florina and tommorow I go for a copple of days to Larissa (it's a city about 3 hours from Florina) their are some other EVS volunteers, one of them is Peter I met on the preparation day.

The trip and my first impression of Florina

Finally it was the 19th july and my EVS is starting. I met Viki at Schiphol and the flight to Athens should go at 12.40 but we had a little delay so we left one hour later. Because we had one hour for the transfer at Athens to go to Thessaloniki we were in a big hurry to catch the plane and it was a relief when we are finally sitting in the plane to Thessaloniki. When arrived at the airport we searched for Nikos and found him after some time. We went to Thessaloniki for a drink and I had my first frappe (it's a cold coffee with nescafe, sugar and milk in it and it's really good) at a nice terrace with view of the sea. After that i've eaten gyros for the first time. I decided that I will start to eat meat when i'm in Greece so i'm no longer a vegetarian!!

After a two hour drive we've arrived in Florina because it was dark I couldn't see much of it but we made a first visit to the youth center and it looked really good. They have a nice office with very new computers. After that Nikos brings us to the appartement. I was really suprised by the size of the appartement. It is much better than my room in Holland. Their are two bedrooms with each a balcony and a nice view at the city and the mountains. From my room you can see the mountains when I looked at the view last night I saw a big white cross in the sky it was ofcours on the mountain but in the dark it looked liked it was high in the sky it was really beautiful. I will make a picture of it tonight to show it.

Today we first go to the Youth Center to met Ellisavet the other youth worker se is also very nice. I think i'm really lucky to work at the project with such a nice and helpful people. After that I walked with Viki through Florina drink some frappe and ofcours get lost but finally we find our appartement again.

Tommorow i'm going to the youth center at Agios Germanos at the Prespa Lakes for two days to met some other volunteers. So maybe tommorow morning I will put some photo's on my weblog and I will tell very quick about my visit at the Prespa Lakes.
